Hi There
I’m Alex, a Sydney born and bred freelance motion & graphic designer based in Manly, where I live with my girlfriend Georgia.
I draw creative inspiration in various ways, shapes and forms from the world around me and try to channel it into something new. I see the creative process as simply a transfer of energy.
Inspiration can come from anywhere, or sometimes not at all, I believe it’s what you do, with or without it, that counts. Things that can get my creative juices flowing include a diverse range of art, music, movies, travel, nature, people or whatever blows my mind really.
I’m very passionate about my work and craft, and I’m grateful to share it with you.
When I’m behind the screens,
…and I’m not working, I really enjoy creating personal animation projects simply for the love of my craft with no money involved. I really feel it’s a part of me when I’m involved in every stage from start to finish from thinking up a fun idea, building out the assets, setting the scenes, telling the story through animation and then bringing it all to life with sound.
When I’m not behind the screens,
…and I’m not watching a good movie, I like to get as far away from pixels as humanly possible, reconnecting with nature and the great outdoors has always been my greatest source of inspiration, whether it’s a full camping trip, a bush walk or simply a jog on the beach, nature helps to reset my mind and get the creative juices flowing again.

Before finding my one true love, motion graphics, I was once upon a time in a galaxy far away, a civil engineer. While I really enjoyed working as an engineer, I constantly suffered from a stubborn creative itch that had always been there and wouldn’t go away. Upon returning to Sydney from a round the world trip with much time to think (and scratch), I found myself at a crossroads working full time nocturnally in cocktail bars all over pre-lockout Sydney, reluctant to return to my engineering profession in search of a cure to my artistic ailment. So I finally made the jump to go back to study graphic design at the Design Centre Enmore, it was there that I opened After Effects for the first time, and it was love at first sight. From then I knew that I had found my path, motion graphics. And after my journey through engineering, graphic design and hospitality, I’ve come to terms with my unhealthy obsession with maths, my guilty pleasure for typography, and my sleep depriving love of people, even when they’ve had too much to drink… though I am happy now to not be serving them anymore.

Motion Design is not only my career, it connects my passions with my talents and gives me purpose. Since I was a kid I’ve always enjoyed learning and practicing new skills, I’ve been passionate about art and music, I’ve loved both telling stories and appreciated good storytelling in movies and books, and I’ve been drawn to solving problems and challenging the mind any way that I can. I feel blessed that my profession and craft in motion design contains all of these incredible aspects that I find engaging and ensure that I continue to grow as a creative person. I love nothing more than to share my passion for motion design with the world.

As much as I’m passionate about the craft behind the work that I do, I enjoy creative problem solving at every phase of the project pipeline from concept to delivery. As I apply acute attention to detail with my work, I am continually fascinated by the visual, conceptual and quantitative problem solving aspects involved in motion design, which all serve as perfect outlets for my OCD.
Other practical applications of my OCD include:
Packing the car for a camping trip like a Tetris Jedi Master Prodigy
Same thing with the fridge (warm beer is unAustralian)
Naming every single layer in my working files (and then God said, let there be light)
