Spotify Summer Stories - Case Study

The Spotify Summer Stories campaign celebrated the role music plays in defining Australian summer moments, built on the insight that every summer moment is not complete without the perfect soundtrack. 

 

The Challenge

The campaign solved the business problem that Spotify faced every year by Australia’s beautiful and beloved Summer time as listening dropped off as Aussies head outdoors, by choosing to make Spotify and Summer inseparable instead of competing with it. Through playlists, artist collaborations and creator-led content, and led by contextually placed Out of Home that responded to location, time of day and even weather, Spotify matched every summer moment with a fitting summer track. Rather than just advertising in summer, they took music to where summer stories actually happen, ultimately reversing the seasonal listening slump.

 

My Involvement

I was provided with the storyboard, script, voiceover and campaign assets, and tasked with bringing the piece to life in line with the creative team’s vision. Through design, animation, editing, footage and sound sourcing and placement, I crafted the film to support and elevate the narrative, campaign idea and key concepts it portrayed. I also came up with ideas for the narrative, graphic layouts and ways to simplifying the communication of complex concepts. I repurposed graphics from the campaign to work bespoke for this video as well as building some elements myself. It was a fun project to work on, I really loved the idea behind the campaign, and all the creative thinking that went into matching the various summer moments with soundtracks is just gold. The team at Akcelo were amazing to work with and I’m very glad I’m glad I got the opportunity to work on this case study.
